Clarksville Schools and Employers

This month, we’re spotlighting the Clarksville Neighborhood of Austin, Texas.  This week, we’ll be taking a look at some of the schools and employers in this Central West Austin area.

Students in Clarksville attend Austin Independent School District Schools.  Students in grades Kindergarten through fifth attend the Exemplary rated Matthews Elementary.  Matthews’ mission is to educate children with positive attitudes, academic foundations, and a life-long love of learning.

Students in grade six through eight attend O’Henry Middle School, whose mascot is the Mustang and whose colors are red and white.  O’Henry’s mission is that all students will progress academically and intellectually, and will graduate prepared for personal success and inspired to contribute to society.

Clarksville residents in grades nine through twelve attend Austin High School, whose mascot is Mr. Maroon and whose colors are Maroon and White.  Austin High is ranked Recognized and its mission is for its faculty to use innovative curriculum, effective instruction and community collaboration to assure all students develop academic, social, and workplace skills for a productive role in a diverse and changing world.

Clarksville is located less than two miles from downtown Austin, making it a great place to live if you work downtown.

There are lots of employers downtown, one of them is Whole Foods Market, which has their world headquarters downtown, at the corner of 6th and Lamar.  Whole Foods started with just one store in Austin in 1978 and has grown to over 330 locations across the country employing over 58,000 people.  Whole Foods specializes in organic and natural products and has consistently been ranked among the most socially responsible businesses in the nation.

GSD&M is another downtown Austin employer.  An advertising agency founded by four University of Texas graduates in 1971, their headquarters is across the street from Whole Foods.
