Tarrytown

This month, we’re going to be spotlighting the Tarrytown Neighborhood of Austin, Texas.  This tony, historic area is in the zip code 78703 and is bordered by Lake Austin Boulevard on the South, Lake Austin on the West, West 35th Street on the North, and Mopac on the East.

Tarrytown is named after Tarrytown, New York, and was first developed in 1934.  Its slogan at the time was "Where Oak Trees Charm the Eye" and many of the homes here have lake views.  Tarrytown is home to many landmarks such as the Granger and MayfieldHouses, Laguna Gloria, Lions Municipal Golf Course, Reed Park, Walsh Boat Landing and Howson Library

Tarrytown has long been considered of Austin's most exclusive neighborhoods, and has boasted famous residents such as Matthew McConnaughey (who was living there during the infamous “Bongo Incident”), and President George W. Bush.  While Tarrytown is mostly a residential area, its location puts it in close proximity to downtown, the University of Texas, and all the diversions Lake Austin offers.
