Rental Trends in Austin and Beyond

Austin isn’t the most expensive place to rent in Texas, Culturemap Austin reports.

That honor actually goes to Dallas, where the median rent last year for a one bedroom apartment was $1,190. Austin’s median rent was a tiny bit less at $1,142.

Across the US, the median rent for a one bedroom was up 2.4 percent and two bedrooms saw an increase of 3 percent. Most of the increases came in the last quarter of 2017.

28 states had increases in rent for one bedrooms. Texas’ one bedroom rent was up .5 percent to $882.

Austin’s rent for a one bedroom increased by .3 percent overall, which was the least change in any rental market in the state. Of other Texas cities, Corpus Christi had the biggest increase in median rent at 1.9 percent and El Paso had the biggest decrease, where rent was down 1.9 percent.
